How the Chat Bots Affect High Education sector?
Welcome back, guys. We finally ended up our midterm. Hope that you guys doing well:) Keep it up!
Today, I brought up one of the most interesting questions for you guys. Some might feel guilty about the topic. That much, this question has raised lots of controversial viewpoints nowadays.
So my question is
"How do you think using Chat-GPT or another chatbot in our college assignment or relatable education? Is it still okay for their academic achievement? or might be harmful? "
I know I know. You have definitely used Chat-GPT even once at college. When I am still majoring in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, I use the chatbot and ask it to solve math problems; even though I know that the answer might be wrong. I consider that using chatbots in our education would be more pervasive and become our normal life. It might be one part of our study after a few years.
At the same time, some professionals point out its disadvantages and possibly barriers in students' academies.
Prestigious universities in the UK, such as the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Edinburgh, could not accept AI assistance and regard it as plagiarism. We can not say that their argument is not acceptable; because it is true that our restrained critical thinking and solving problem skills, due to chat-bot, determines our academic success.
Just copying essays from the chatbot and pasting them on the assignment could not be a great strategy for your study. As soon as the Chat GPT was released in November 2022, it faced criticism “for its potential misuse in academics as a tool for cheating on essays and tests” (Narayanan, 2024). There are also rises in various plagiarism detection services like Turnitin, and many US and UK universities have adopted the technology and thoroughly scrutinized students using chat-bots.
Nevertheless, it is not true that using AI only has negative impacts on students. It still possesses useful benefits for not only students but also professors. Chan and Hu, instructors at the University of Hong Kong, mentioned that AI assists students' writing skills and provides high-quality materials including images and statistics.
They also highlighted six artificial intelligence contributions to fostering academic integrity in education.
Detecting plagiarism: Text may be quickly analyzed and compared using AI-powered plagiarism detection systems to find instances of plagiarism. These tools use algorithms to detect similarities between submitted work and a vast database of sources, helping educators and institutions identify potential cases of plagiarism more effectively.
Originality checking: AI can assist students in ensuring the originality of their work. AI-based writing helpers can offer tips and criticism to students to help them write better while avoiding accidental plagiarism. These tools can highlight potential sources that need proper citation and offer guidance on paraphrasing and proper attribution.
Automated citation and referencing: AI tools can streamline the process of citation and referencing by automatically generating accurate citations based on given referencing styles. This reduces the likelihood of citation errors and helps students maintain consistency and adhere to proper referencing practices.
Academic integrity education: AI can be used to develop interactive tutorials, modules, and educational resources on academic integrity. These resources can instruct students on how to recognize plagiarism, use sources ethically, properly cite sources, paraphrase, recognize plagiarism, and properly cite sources and paraphrase. AI-based educational systems can assist in increasing students' understanding of the value of academic integrity and educating them about it.
Proctoring and cheating detection: AI-driven proctoring systems can monitor and analyze students’ behavior during online assessments to detect potential instances of cheating or academic misconduct. These systems use facial recognition, eye-tracking, and keystroke analysis to identify suspicious activities and alert instructors or institutions.
Personalized feedback: AI-powered feedback systems can provide personalized and timely feedback on academic assignments. By analyzing students’ work and providing tailored suggestions, these systems can help students improve their writing skills and avoid unintentional plagiarism, thus promoting academic integrity.
(Jarrah et al., 2023)
It is also capable of enhancing our efficiency by shortening time; however, this benefit can confront possible analysis of hindering their writing abilities and creativity with certain patterns. In this regard, I also define AI as a double-edged sword. But how about you? What is your thought?

Hi! Thank you for your insightful blog. I like how to dig deeper into the chatbot by explaining both benefits and disadvantages. As a university student, I have thought about the rightness of using chatbots like ChatGPT for my assignments. My conclusion depends on the learning subject. When I learn something that requires critical thinking such as Business Ethics, I will never use a chatbot to answer to ethical issues. I believe that humans are responsible for answering them. However, as utilizing AI is inevitable in our lives, I think collaborating with ChatGPT is acceptable as we are currently doing in EST 325. I wonder what your position for your question:)
